Yes, the Solatube 290 DS performs well even on cloudy days. The Raybender 3000 dome is designed to capture low-angle and diffuse light, which is abundant on overcast days. Our testing showed that even on a fully overcast day, light output was sufficient to reduce the need for artificial lighting, though not as bright as a sunny day. The nightlight continues to charge from ambient light, though a very overcast week may reduce nightlight brightness.

How loud is the nightlight or system operation?

The system is completely silent. There are no fans, motors, or electronic hums. The daylight is entirely passive, and the LED nightlight operates without any audible noise.
